DIY Fireplace Makeover

This project is REALLY easy and makes such a big difference for the vibes in your home!

Here are the SIX ITEMS you will need!

1. Drop cloth

2. Paint brush

3. Painter tape

4. Spray paint (cover gold on fireplace)

    Operating fireplace paint (high heat)

    Inoperable fireplace (just for decoration)

5. Paint  I included the link for the white I used on the brick! I also added "Black Fox" Cashmere Flat paint for the tile base!

6. Mixing bucket

Time Required

There was a lot of brick on this fireplace project. It took me about 6 hours to paint the white brick. 15 minutes to tape off and spray the black metal part. The base (painted dark) took about 2 hours. I painted a sealer on first, then the darker color paint. Your time frame will depend on

a) how big of a space you are painting

b) how quickly you paint

Special Tips

1. Remember to be careful as you paint along walls, ceilings, the mantle, etc. The tape will help protect those areas, but if you slap the paint on really thick and it runs, some paint can get under the tape. Just be aware of how much paint is sitting there.

2. As you go along painting the brick- know that you will have drips! You can paint a fairly large section and then go back and just wipe/smear drips with your paint brush. Just keep going and check back periodically for those drips. It's going to look great!!!

3. Decorations will complete the fireplace. Add a TV, mirror, greenery, pictures, etc. Whatever it is that makes the space YOU!!!

Let's Get Started!

1. Use the drop cloth to cover below the area you will be painting

2. Use painter tape to cover walls, mantle, base, etc

3. Mix paint in bucket- depending on the look you want, add some water.

I used 50/50 on this fireplace. I poured the 1 quart of paint into the larger bucket, and added 1 quart of water.

If you want more of a white washed look (more transparent), just add more water! You can test a small section with a small mixture of water/paint. See what you like after it dries, and then paint all the brick!

4. Tape around the metal fireplace to protect the brick. Spray paint the gold section with your flat, black spray paint.

5. Remove tape around metal fireplace and begin to paint the brick with the white paint!

6. Remove all tape and the drop cloth! Admire your work!
